Chemical Dosing Valve Material Compatibility

Where this happens
Dosing valves sit on chemical injection points, neutralization lines, chlorine feeds, sampling bypasses, and small control lines in water and wastewater plants. The lines are small and low-pressure, which is exactly why their material risk gets underestimated.
How it goes wrong
The mistake is letting the small pipe size drive the selection. The dosing chemical is usually delivered neat or concentrated — chlorine, acid, caustic, or polymer — so at the injection point the valve sees a far more aggressive medium than the treated water downstream, and a standard stainless or brass fitting can corrode or seize quickly. Body and seal have to be reviewed together against that neat chemical; a compatible body with an incompatible seat or diaphragm still fails. This is why plastic (PVC, CPVC, PP, PVDF) and lined valves are common on dosing duty where metal would be wrong — and why a check valve at the injection point matters, because backflow of concentrated chemical into the dosing pump is its own failure.
